Late/Absence Procedure

Absences and late marks

It is very important that your child attends school every day. Absence means that important parts of the curriculum are missed and will therefore inhibit your child’s progress. The school doors open at 8.45am and close at 8.55am. Any children arriving after this time should enter school through the main reception area and register with Mrs Oxley. If you know your child is going to be late, please let the school office know as soon as possible.

Weekly attendances are collected by the Local Authority via the school’s electronic administration system and any child who does not have an explanation for their absence will be automatically given an unauthorised absence. Therefore, it is of vital importance that if your child is ill and unable to attend, you must let us know on the first day of absence by e-mail to joxley@nmm.srscmat.co.uk

It is also essential that the school have an up to date emergency contact number for parents and carers in the event that we need to contact you about any illness and injury.

Where possible, medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours.

Parents will not be granted any leave of absence for holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances; please e-mail joxley@nmm.srscmat.co.uk to request a ‘leave of absence request form’. If the request is for a family holiday please submit it before the holiday is booked.

If approval for your absence request is not granted and your child is absent from school during the specified dates you may be issued with a Penalty Notice by Derbyshire County Council for this unauthorised absence.

Please see this information leaflet about school attendance and the law.

No authorisations will be granted retrospectively.

There is separate guidance on our school website regarding health and medication.
